This year I hosted my first bride of the year competition. One of my winners are Catherine, she won a couple shoot by just choosing a bride from the list of all my brides of last year. Look out for the competition next year January to see what is up for grabs!

So it has been a very busy year and poor Catherine had to wait until now for me to have a booking opening. But I think it was the perfect time to do the shoot. It is winter (and it still felt a like winter when we did the shoot 2 weeks ago) but the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens looked like Fall. I'm so glad it is starting to warm up, I love spring!

Catherine and Toni have been dating for 9 months now and are soooo in love ;) Everytime she went into his arms they both smiled. With most people, meeting a stranger in a park and letting him/her take photos of you is a very weird experience, but it took Catherine & Toni a couple of minutes to get used to me. We had so much fun, Catherine was very cold, but held her pose and did everything I asked - Thank you :) and Toni... probably the first guy I've photographed who really looked like he was having fun, he reminded me of a little boy having fun without worrying what people around him thought, everyone should still have a little kid in themselves and come out to play now and then.

It was a wonderful experience photographing Catherine and Toni and I hope everyone enjoys the photos as much as I do! Give the gif a minute or two to load South Africa :)

What a wonderful wedding to celebrate! I am happy to report that Boeta is doing great, he had the bullet removed a couple of months ago and is going strong. For those of you not in the know, here is Boeta & Malenke's post on what happened the day of their couple shoot.

Boeta and Malenke got married on the 24th of July at Kwa Madwala Game Reserve, near Hectorspruit in the Lowveld. Kwa Madwala means Place of the Rock, and you'll soon see why. This magical place has rock everywhere and its so beautiful. The Reserve have a lot of game including lion, rhino, elephant, and occasionally leopard that guest can see on their game drive. The reception was set in a dried up river bank in the middle of the bushveld, and the food made by Stoep Cafe in Komati was delicious! Oooh, now I cant wait for Ruan and Mary-Ann's wedding next weekend...nom,nom,nom :D Part 2 coming in a couple of hours.

So I've had some shy couples in the past, but these too were by far the shyest I have come across, and I have to admit I really loved it! When someone is that shy, the moment they show someone emotion it 1st off means they trust you (thank you guys) and second of all shows the truest emotion. I met Fielies and Melissa a couple of days before they booked me for their wedding, and we got to do this amazing engagement session on Fielies' family farm in Hectorspruit. It was a warm day on the farm, and we took some lovely photos at a farm house and an old building, but when we got to the cows the light was perfect sun set, and the dust was kicked up by the cattle - 2 of them decided to fight, I always get lucky enough to see animals in a fight (not that I like it, but hey, it is nature) - I almost didnt want to leave the spot because it was perfect! Thank you to my lovely couple who shared their afternoon with me.

Fielies and Melissa are getting married in a month on their farm in Kaapmuiden, in the Lowveld. Can't wait to be part of their day.

I'm posting about my friends Hylgard and Charlien Lourens, parents of two. I've done a couple of shoots for them in the past, here is their last shoot. In February this year I met new born, Nicolien Lourens, she has grown a couple of inches now and got a bubbling personality with the new inches. I'm so glad we got to do this shoot, do yourself a favour and go see how much Nicolien has grown in just 5 months, the saying They grow up so quickly is there for a reason. In the first couple of years of your child's life it is important to capture them as much as you can. We did a family shoot with grandmothers Linda and Roelien and grandpa Willem (if you ask me, they don't look like grandparents at all) and last but not least, a little cutie called Simone ;) I had so much fun capturing these moments, I struggled a bit choosing the photos for the blog - there were a lot more I wanted to post, and I apologize for uploading so many at once, but I HAD TOO - I just love these shots. Enjoy!

It is Women's Day in South Africa, here is a little bit about why we celebrate women's day. Information from blog.sa-venues.com and www.sahistory.org.za

It has nothing to do with honouring women just because we need another “Mother’s Day”, this day commemorates the 9 August 1956 when women participating in a national march petitioned against pass laws … (For anyone who does not know the history – “pass laws” were legislation that required African persons to carry a document on them to ‘prove’ that they were allowed to enter a ‘white area’ during the Apartheid regime).

On this day in 1956, over 20 000 women of all races and ages from every corner of South Africa marched together towards the Union Buildings in Pretoria. These brave women were marching in protest against the pass laws that proposed even further restrictions on the movements of women.

Organised by the Federation of South African Women, the March was led by four brave women; Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa, Sophie Williams and Lilian Ngoyi. The leaders delivered petitions to Prime Minister JG Strijdom’s office within the Union Buildings.

Women throughout South Africa had put their names to these petitions indicating their anger and frustration at having their freedom of movement restricted by the hated official passes.

To conclude the Women’s March the women sang freedom songs such as Nkosi sikeleli Afrika, however, the song that became the anthem of the march was “Wathint’ abafazi, Strijdom!”

Today I want to say thank you to every women that is inspirational to me.You might not even know that you are an inspiration to me, so here's to you Mom, my 2 Grandmothers, my girlfriends and peers. You have all influenced my life with not only the small stuff like teaching me that I not only have to be fair to people, but also to be fair to myself - I had to apply it to life this past week. To always dream bigger, reach for the stars - and that if it doesn't work out right now, it will do soon, just believe and never give up ;) To love someone even though they make you soooo angry, forgive and forget! That if you work hard you will reap the benefits. And to all these women who protested in 1956, thank you for not giving up and respecting yourselves and to fight not only for yourself but for future woman in South Africa. You are all a support system I count on and look up to. Thank you.

Here are a couple of photos of my lovely mom! You Rock MOM! Thank you for listening when no one else would and to motivate me when I'm down. ;)

We went to Olympia and drove around till we saw a beautiful Cherry Blossom tree (ok we were actually looking at historical buildings, but the Cherry Blossom tree was WAAAAYYYY prettier). We took Abigail and went for a walk, of course I had my camera there ;) Here is a couple of the shots we got. Abigail is my favourite little girl in the whole world! I love you Abigail :) and I know she also loves me because the day I arrived in Seattle she said: "I love you Rinska!" (I LOVE HOW SHE PRONOUNCES MY NAME) it was, in fact, the first time she said I love you to anyone, that same day she told her mommy that she loved her too :D Her mommy was so proud!

This post is definitely long over due, these were shot at the end of January this year...yup, I'm behind on my personal posts. If you don't know who Adele is, here is the story; We met our first year at Stellenbosch University, 2001 and became good friends. Adele is also a photographer, visit her blog here. At the moment she lives in Seattle, USA. Her husband is in the US Army so they move a lot, every year since 2008 I go visit them in the Sates, here are some photos that I took of their little family in 2008, Abigail is my favourite ;)

In January Adele came to visit me in Johnnesburg, when we decided to do a little spur-of-the-moment-shoot, it turned out to be, not only a lot of fun but it was ridiculously hilarious. Our abs were so sore at the end of our shoot, we found ourselves to be a little confused and did not know what to do, I'm sure a lot of photographers experience this, we are so used to being behind the lens that once in front of it, we go blank, we forget what to do. Adele and I just decided to be silly, laugh it off and act like kids - which is in fact what I love to do with my clients, once you have a little fun, you forget about the camera and just enjoy the moments you're in. I hope I can always be a little silly behind and in front of my lens.

As far back as I can remember Ruan has been a real 'stout gat'.Ruan is also from my home town, Komatipoort. Mary-Ann- and Ruan's parents were good friends when the two of them were little. During the holidays Mary-Ann and her family would go and visit Ruan's family on the farm. But they both grew up, Mary-Ann a city girl and Ruan went off to boarding school. Their paths crossed again (years later) when Mary-Ann visited her father in Komati. Her sister, Malenke, who is getting married to Boeta next week, arranged a braai with friends so that Mary-Ann could meet some of the Komati people. I'm sure Mary-Ann never expected to see Ruan there, but there he was, this grown up boy she used to know as a little stout gat. But what she didn't know is that Ruan has always had a crush on her and "single girl" is a rare word in Komati, so Ruan had to watch out for all the other guys ready to fall for Mary-Ann! It was love at first sight, ok maybe not first sight, but you get what I'm saying. Its like those Hollywood movies. And the rest as they say is history.

I went for a quick visit a week ago when I went to the Lowveld.
