Chris & Theresa are my sister-in-law, Genevieve’s grandparents. They have been married for 51 years. Thats two lifetimes of memories, so where did it all start? Chris is such a good story teller, and I’m afraid that I wont do the story much justice, but I hope you get at least a glimpse of these two wonderful people:
When they were young, Chris and his buddy where trying to show off to Theresa and her friend sitting in the street, the boys had a kaskar (not really sure what you call it in english) and as most cases of show-off goes, they ended up getting hurt and the two girls just laughed at them. Chris really wanted to get to know Theresa better and used every chance he got.
But when he went to visit her one day, she had another admirer also wanting to be a part of her life. To me, Chris doesn’t seem scared of anything! If he wants something he will get it, one way or the other, so he masterminded a plan and followed through. He asked the Frikkie to go with him to “answer mother natures call”, so they went outside and as they were both ‘answering’, Chris turned to Frikkie (no he was not finished – this was the plan)…Frikkie, with wet pants, thought of going inside but Chris told him that Theresa wouldn’t think much of him if she thought he wet his pants. He told him that he would tell Theresa that Frikkie had an emergency and had to go home, so the poor guy went home – when Theresa asked Chris where Frikkie was, he told her that he had an Oepsie in his pants (NICE!) and as they say, the rest is history. But this is not just a short history, they have lived with and known each other for so long and they have countless stories that they could share.
Chris told me that the success to a long and happy marriage is having stuff in common. One of the things he loves doing, is going on adventures with Theresa, they love animals, nature and traveling. When they talk you can see that they are almost one, they finish each others sentences, they listen to each other and they laugh so beautifully together!
Recently, Theresa was diagnosed with lung cancer and she has undergone her first chemo treatment before the shoot. Chris said that when he found out she had cancer he cried and prayed for three days, on the 3rd day he opened his Bible and there he found an answer:
Kings II 20:5
…I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears; behold, I will heal thee…
Chris & Theresa, I wish you all the luck on this new journey you have, I know its not a wonderful story to tell, but the way you two will go through the kinks, hand in hand, will make it a great story, no matter the circumstances.
