I received an urgent skype message the other night from one of my friends asking me if I was okay, because she saw that I haven't blogged in a while! Thank you so much for the concern...and hint that I'm behind on my posts ;) For those of you not in the loop, I'm rebranding and getting an awesome new blog-site, really soon! Some of my new posts are on the new site already, we're just waiting for some transfers and then, when it has launched, I will blog, facebook & twitter everybody with the new url. I'm burning with excitement! In the meantime, you can go and like my new facebook page while your waiting.

Chris & Teresa are my sister-in-law, Genevieve's grandparents. They have been married for 51 years. Thats two lifetimes of memories, so where did it all start? Chris is such a good story teller, and I'm afraid that I wont do the story much justice, but I hope you get at least a glimpse of these two wonderful people:

My trip to Seattle {Travel}

I know I should have posted these sooner, but I always say better late than never, right? Here are some photos of me and the Cabanillas family, Phablo, Adele & Abigail Reese taking a day trip to Seattle. It was exactly what you would expect of Seattle...rainy and cold! But I suppose that adds to the experience, remembering Seattle as a sunny place would not quite give me the satisfaction of being in a place where it rains 6 months in a year. We went to the Farmers market and just walked around. It was pretty darn cold and very wet all over but a great outing. The photos of me were taken by the talented Adele from AbigailReese Photography (yes her business is named after her daughter (and my favourite girl in the world))!

And to make this post a little more special, Adele will be landing at O.R. Tambo tonight. Adele, WELCOME HOME! I know you are only staying a little while but we are so glad to have you back in SA!

Abigail {Travel & Fun}

When I was in Seattle with Adele, we went for a day trip just driving around and singing in the car. We went to Olympia and drove around till we saw a beautiful Cherry Blossom tree (ok we were actually looking at historical buildings, but the Cherry Blossom tree was WAAAAYYYY prettier). We took Abigail and went for a walk, of course I had my camera there ;) Here is a couple of the shots we got. Abigail is my favourite little girl in the whole world! I love you Abigail :) and I know she also loves me because the day I arrived in Seattle she said: "I love you Rinska!" (I LOVE HOW SHE PRONOUNCES MY NAME) it was, in fact, the first time she said I love you to anyone, that same day she told her mommy that she loved her too :D Her mommy was so proud!

This post is definitely long over due, these were shot at the end of January this year...yup, I'm behind on my personal posts. If you don't know who Adele is, here is the story; We met our first year at Stellenbosch University, 2001 and became good friends. Adele is also a photographer, visit her blog here. At the moment she lives in Seattle, USA. Her husband is in the US Army so they move a lot, every year since 2008 I go visit them in the Sates, here are some photos that I took of their little family in 2008, Abigail is my favourite ;)

In January Adele came to visit me in Johnnesburg, when we decided to do a little spur-of-the-moment-shoot, it turned out to be, not only a lot of fun but it was ridiculously hilarious. Our abs were so sore at the end of our shoot, we found ourselves to be a little confused and did not know what to do, I'm sure a lot of photographers experience this, we are so used to being behind the lens that once in front of it, we go blank, we forget what to do. Adele and I just decided to be silly, laugh it off and act like kids - which is in fact what I love to do with my clients, once you have a little fun, you forget about the camera and just enjoy the moments you're in. I hope I can always be a little silly behind and in front of my lens.

Anlie & Xander {New-Soul}

You might remember my friend, Anlie, from my previous post of her, with her pregnant belly. I went for a quick visit a week ago when I went to the Lowveld. It was awesome seeing this little gift from God, Xander - he was about 12 days, and weighed only 3kg (he definitely has his mothers frame), I have never seen a baby with such blond hair...but thats what you get when both mom and dad are natural blonds. Enjoy the couple of photos, till our next shoot with dad included, that will not be as easy.

I have wanted to post about Tasyan for a while now, but I couldn't write about her, it still hurts when I think about her, she was so young, she was beautiful inside and out, she had a stunning soul.

I saw her 3 days before she died in a tragic car accident, March 2009. I saw her at my mothers' 50th Birthday party, it had been a while since I had seen her, so we caught up almost the whole night. I've known her for so long, I was 2 years older than her, but throughout our school years (from kindergarden till high school) we were always good friends. Before my mom's party it had been 4 years since I last saw her, in England, whilst I was doing a Final Cut course and visiting friends. It was at a braai with a couple of friends, her brother Kyle was visiting her, and I was so glad to see them both, it felt like I was back in my home town with old friends. I took some photos at the braai and stored them on my ipod that was formatted accidentally without me having to back up. Every time I look at the ipod I think of her, because I can still view the thumbnail photos on the ipod, but I cant get the actual high res photos.

Werner & Anlie – Potbelly

Another friend that I've known all my life, Anlie :)

She is an awesome friend, one you treasure for life. We've known each other for so long, and we get together every now and then when I visit my parents in Malelane. I was so psyched to hear that Anlie and Werner are pregnant, and I keep regular tabs on my friends and their little Xander thats on the way. She's almost due - a couple more weeks :) Can't wait!!! Anlie was a ballet dancer, so I kind of forced her into her leotard and points to do something I've never done before. She thought I was crazy, but she knows me - believe me, this comes from wrestling on the top bunker bed in our high school hostel - I wont tell you what happened afterwards, it comes from laughing so hard together that you cannot stop...and you wet your pants :D - that happened to me (I'm starting to see a pattern here where every time I end up with something horrible that happens to me - no comment on the wrestling thing)...it comes from years of friendship and knowing what you can get away with;) it makes for good stories to tell everytime you see each other again. Thank you Anlie, for allowing me to get to do this. I absolutely love this series.

Oh and also, thank you to Werner, he is very camera shy, so forcing him to take photos for 10 min was extremely hard.
