As far back as I can remember Ruan has been a real ‘stout gat’.Ruan is also from my home town, Komatipoort. Mary-Ann- and Ruan’s parents were good friends when the two of them were little. During the holidays Mary-Ann and her family would go and visit Ruan’s family on the farm. But they both grew up, Mary-Ann a city girl and Ruan went off to boarding school. Their paths crossed again (years later) when Mary-Ann visited her father in Komati. Her sister, Malenke, who is getting married to Boeta next week, arranged a braai with friends so that Mary-Ann could meet some of the Komati people. I’m sure Mary-Ann never expected to see Ruan there, but there he was, this grown up boy she used to know as a little stout gat. But what she didn’t know is that Ruan has always had a crush on her and “single girl” is a rare word in Komati, so Ruan had to watch out for all the other guys ready to fall for Mary-Ann! It was love at first sight, ok maybe not first sight, but you get what I’m saying. Its like those Hollywood movies. And the rest as they say is history.
