Chris & Teresa are my sister-in-law, Genevieve's grandparents. They have been married for 51 years. Thats two lifetimes of memories, so where did it all start? Chris is such a good story teller, and I'm afraid that I wont do the story much justice, but I hope you get at least a glimpse of these two wonderful people:

This year I hosted my first bride of the year competition. One of my winners are Catherine, she won a couple shoot by just choosing a bride from the list of all my brides of last year. Look out for the competition next year January to see what is up for grabs!

So it has been a very busy year and poor Catherine had to wait until now for me to have a booking opening. But I think it was the perfect time to do the shoot. It is winter (and it still felt a like winter when we did the shoot 2 weeks ago) but the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens looked like Fall. I'm so glad it is starting to warm up, I love spring!

Catherine and Toni have been dating for 9 months now and are soooo in love ;) Everytime she went into his arms they both smiled. With most people, meeting a stranger in a park and letting him/her take photos of you is a very weird experience, but it took Catherine & Toni a couple of minutes to get used to me. We had so much fun, Catherine was very cold, but held her pose and did everything I asked - Thank you :) and Toni... probably the first guy I've photographed who really looked like he was having fun, he reminded me of a little boy having fun without worrying what people around him thought, everyone should still have a little kid in themselves and come out to play now and then.

It was a wonderful experience photographing Catherine and Toni and I hope everyone enjoys the photos as much as I do! Give the gif a minute or two to load South Africa :)

Fielies & Melissa {I’m yours}

So I've had some shy couples in the past, but these too were by far the shyest I have come across, and I have to admit I really loved it! When someone is that shy, the moment they show someone emotion it 1st off means they trust you (thank you guys) and second of all shows the truest emotion. I met Fielies and Melissa a couple of days before they booked me for their wedding, and we got to do this amazing engagement session on Fielies' family farm in Hectorspruit. It was a warm day on the farm, and we took some lovely photos at a farm house and an old building, but when we got to the cows the light was perfect sun set, and the dust was kicked up by the cattle - 2 of them decided to fight, I always get lucky enough to see animals in a fight (not that I like it, but hey, it is nature) - I almost didnt want to leave the spot because it was perfect! Thank you to my lovely couple who shared their afternoon with me.

Fielies and Melissa are getting married in a month on their farm in Kaapmuiden, in the Lowveld. Can't wait to be part of their day.

Ruan & Mary-Ann {I’m yours}

As far back as I can remember Ruan has been a real 'stout gat'.Ruan is also from my home town, Komatipoort. Mary-Ann- and Ruan's parents were good friends when the two of them were little. During the holidays Mary-Ann and her family would go and visit Ruan's family on the farm. But they both grew up, Mary-Ann a city girl and Ruan went off to boarding school. Their paths crossed again (years later) when Mary-Ann visited her father in Komati. Her sister, Malenke, who is getting married to Boeta next week, arranged a braai with friends so that Mary-Ann could meet some of the Komati people. I'm sure Mary-Ann never expected to see Ruan there, but there he was, this grown up boy she used to know as a little stout gat. But what she didn't know is that Ruan has always had a crush on her and "single girl" is a rare word in Komati, so Ruan had to watch out for all the other guys ready to fall for Mary-Ann! It was love at first sight, ok maybe not first sight, but you get what I'm saying. Its like those Hollywood movies. And the rest as they say is history.

Johan & Tieka

Johan & Tieka are from Hartebeespoortdam. They are getting married in Oktober and I just cant wait for their wedding. These two are both a little shy infront of the camera, but once we got to know each other better it was a peace of cake photographing them.

Mario & Nataliya ~ Vienna

It is amazing to be able to shoot at locations like these, (SA has them too...I just dont know about all of them...yet). I met Mario and Nataliya through Andreas Hauke. Mario & Nataliya are getting married in July this year and wanted to get some couple photos of themselves before the wedding. Nataliya works as a make-up artist in a theatre and Mario is a chef and part time DJ (see tomorrow's post for DJ pics), they live in the AWESOME Vienna, Austria. Nataliya organized the locations for us, first we went to a function hall in the city centre, then to a old school library for the second part and finally the park. If only I had these locations in my back yard...I envy people living in the city, the locations speak for themselves.

Schalk & Rynali

Schalk & Rynali are the sweetest couple. They are getting married in September, just outside of Pretoria. My favourite question to ask; How did they meet?

They met 8 years ago on a blind date...yeah, I thought that only happens in the movies. My blind dates normally turn out to be really weird guys with the strangest habbits ;) [note to self: give blind dates another go] Anywhoo, both of them hated the idea of going on this date and tried hard to get out of it, but , their mutual friend, friendly forced them to go on the blind date. Needless to say, at the end of their date Cupid used his magic and the two were in love, and its crystal clear that they still are.

Boeta & Malenke

On 23 April I road out to Boeta's house on his farm, it's a good half an hours ride, (my parents now live in Malelane), I was doing a engagement session for Boeta and Malenke. I got there at 15h30, Malenke was make-upped by Nadie, and we looked at what to wear for the two of them. Boeta was on the farm busy getting a tracktor out of a ditch, he came home a little later all dirty and full of mud, he quickly took a shower and we started shooting (it feels wrong using the word shoot). It was such a great session, we laughed and made stupid jokes and talked about when we were little kids and everyday life, we had a lot of fun and I was really glad to see that Boeta didn't moan once about being photographed - this is very uncommon among South African guys, I'm sure Malenke had something to do with it ;). Malenke is also from Komati, she is a little shy, but once you get to know her she is the sweetest thing, she always has a smile on her face. I am so glad you two found each other, I dont even need to say how apparent your love is for each other as the pictures will tell the story, Boeta has been waiting for Malenke all his life.

Sarah Rhoads Mentor Session

My whole trip to Seattle was to take a mentor session with Sarah Rhoads from Sarah Rhoads Photographers - run by her and her husband Chris. I go to the States every year for a workshop and some inspiration. This year I wanted to focus more on the business aspect of Photography - Sarah's session was all that and more, it was amazing! I LOVED every second of being surrounded by her and Chris and hearing how they handle their business and art. They are a husband and wife team based in Seattle -> they are Legendary! read more
