Sharon and Brend’s Stellenbosch Wedding
Sharon is my best friend, we met when we were 10, so we’ve been friends for 17 years. When we met at school we hang out together and after a week of doing that we started to go and play at each others houses over weekends. We were friends for I think maybe 4/5 months when Sharon told me that they were moving, I was devastated, so my mom came to me and asked what was wrong, I told her Sharon was moving away and I will never see her again, she said; “Poplap, you are still young, you will make tons of new friends.” I looked at her and said, “not like Sharon, Mom, she is my best friend” – my mom just smiled and said, “Well, then you two should visit each other over holidays” and so we did, we stayed friends. They eventually moved back and we stayed best of friends – joint by the hip. From the time we were 11 up and till we were 18, we were in every class together, irritating the school teachers and enjoying our youth. We laughed at anything and played on the farm like we owned it. After High School we both went to Stellenbosch to go and study BComm – we had a lot of classes together, and we had maybe too much fun for our parents taste – BUT, IT WAS …AWESOME. We also had a deal for our first year at Varsity – FOR THE 1ST YEAR AT STELLENBOSCH WE WERE NOT GOING TO DATE – because thats what we decided – I can remember the motivation but that is no matter, because Sharon met Brend.
And I was to blame because I introduced them to each other :D – as we walked away from Brend the frist time Sharon met him she said; “He’s cute!” (he actually heard it too) I turned around and looked at her with a dumbfound expression on my face; “Erm, Sharon, we marry cute later on in life, now we have to bring in the HOT one’s”. She nodded and I thought it was sorted but no, 2 weeks into our first year Sharon and Brend started to date. Anywhoo, fast forward 3 years > they broke up after Sharon moved to Johannesburg > and 2 years later got back together again…thanks to a WEBER(barbeque) thingy… Yeah its a long story, but she saw a guy and thought he was cute, 8 years later she married the cute guy, Brend!
Brend is one of those guys that gets along with everybody, the guy that talks to you weather you’re cool or not. He my friend and I know he’ll always make her laugh. I’m so happy for you two! I know their life is going to be filled with really funny stories, they have a couple of great ones already (their first kiss, Sharon thought Brend came in for the kiss, he just wanted to tickle her :) she made the 1st move! the WEBER story – i’ll tell it sometime. And then the Honeymoon…Oh wow, they were at Cape Town airport in time, they landed at Johannesburg on time but it was the first time they both got to be in THE DUTY FREE ZONE… needless to say they missed their flight to Mauritius, but luckily the airline reschedule their tickets & hotel booked them the next day for their full 10 days.
For my best friend. I am so glad that we have always stayed friends. I wish you and Brend the best of luck on your journey ahead. I am honored to be part of your lives and know that we’ll have many more stories to share.
Ok, so you want to see some photos, well I did not photograph their day, I was maid of honor, but I did happen to get a few shots here and there when Andre was busy taking other photos. The photographer for their wedding day was Andre from ZARA ZOO, click the link to see the lovely photos he took of Brend & Sharon’s wedding. The wedding was held at Kleine Zalze in Stellenbosch, the food was fantastic, I am still dreaming about that amazing starter we had. The evening before the wedding Sharon, Minette and I went to the Terroir Restaurant at Kleine Zalze, OH.MY.WORD. it was delicious!!! If you’re ever visiting Stellenbosch, Terrior is a MUST.
